What is a personal documentary?

We're after the stuff that usually stays invisible — what you believe, what shaped you, why things mattered the way they did. Think Netflix documentary quality, but about a real person you love. Cinematic. Beautifully shot. The kind of thing that makes you feel close to someone, even years later.

Who commissions these films?

Mostly people who want to capture someone they love before it's too late. Adult children commissioning films of their parents. Partners buying them as anniversary gifts. Families wanting their children to know their grandparent properly. Sometimes people commission a film for themselves because they're at a turning point and they want their story told right. The common thread? They all care deeply about who the person is, not just what they've done.

Question 3

Can we keep it private, or can it be a surprise?

Absolutely. We've done plenty of surprise commissions. The whole thing stays confidential until you're ready to reveal it. You can premiere it at a birthday party, send it as a gift, or just keep it between you — whatever feels right. The person being filmed doesn't need to know it's happening until you decide to tell them.

How does the interview actually work?

Pri sits down with whoever you want to film and has a conversation. Not an interrogation, a conversation. He's studied psychology, so he knows how to ask questions that actually go somewhere. The person usually relaxes pretty quickly because there's no script, no awkwardness, no pressure. If your parent's camera-shy, don't worry. Most people surprise themselves by how much they open up when someone's genuinely listening. He knows when to stay quiet. He knows when to sit with emotion instead of rushing past it.

How much does it cost?

We have three tiers. Core Portrait is £2,250 — one day of filming, focused on the core story. Extended Chronicle is £3,500 — two days, multiple locations, room to bring in family photos or old footage. Signature Opus is £5,000 and up, which gives you more days, more people involved, the full scope. Travel within 25 miles of North London is included. Beyond that, we charge 65p per mile, but we're happy to travel anywhere.

How long does it take?

From your first call to the finished film usually takes between 8 and 16 weeks. We'll give you a clear timeline upfront so you know what to expect. The actual filming is usually done in one or two days depending on which tier you choose. The edit takes 14 to 21 working days. We'll keep you in the loop the whole way.

Question 7

What exactly do we receive?

Three versions, actually. The full film, which is everything they shared, nothing edited out. A 60-minute edit, which is the most powerful, emotional bits that families usually watch together. Short clips, maybe two to four minutes each, built around single themes. You also get a personalised landing page where all this lives, a download link, and a physical hard drive in a proper presentation case. That's yours forever.

Can we include multiple family members in the interview?

Completely. Some people want it to be just one person's voice. Others want their partner in there, or adult children sharing memories, or siblings chiming in. We work with whatever story feels right to your family. The more perspectives, the richer it gets, honestly.

Question 9

Do we need old photos or materials?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. Some families bring archive stuff — old photos, home video, letters. We love that. But it's not required. The interview itself is the heart of it. If you do have materials, we can weave them in, digitize old stuff, all of that. But we don't need them to make a great film.

Question 10

Can you travel, or do we need to be in North London?

Accepted Answer

We travel. Anywhere in the UK, or further if needed. It's built into the cost for nearby trips, and we charge travel costs beyond 25 miles. Home is usually best because people are most themselves in their own space, but if there's a location that matters to the story, we film there instead. The environment matters.

Can we see examples of your work?

Accepted Answer

We can share clips with permission from clients. Some want their films kept private, which we respect completely. But we've got work we can show you. The best way is to have a chat first, tell us what you're thinking about, and then we can show you something that feels relevant to what you're imagining.
